Japanese Red Pine

Red Pine is very popular pine in Japan. This pine usually grows in mountain area and we harvest “Matsutake (a kind of mushroom)” which grows only from the living root of this pine in fall season. (Matsutake is the most expensive mushroom in Japan.)

Leaves of Japanese Red Pine

This picture is leaves of Japanese Red Pine. We call this pine as “Aka-Matsu (赤松)”. 赤 means red and 松 means pine.

Most Japanese pines have the leaves that two stick of leaves create one pair, not like most of the American pines which 3 or 4 leaves form a group.

Ivy Leaved Maple

Ivy-Leaved Maple grows up to 9m (30 feet) height and width. The leaves of this maple look different from other maple species as you can see on the picture.

Fragrant Tea Olive is a popular tree in Japan and I think everyone like this tree because the flowers of this tree have good smell. And when we find this fragrance on a street or in a park, we know autumn has come.

We call this tree “Kin Mokusei (金木犀)” and we call white flower version of Fragrant Tea Olive as “Gin-Mokusei (銀木犀)”.

Lace-Leaf Japanese Maple

Lace-Leaf Japanese Maple is slow grower and reach up to 2.4m (8 feet) height. There are several kind of Lace-Leaf Japanese Maples.

Sekka Yatsubusa Japanese Maple grows slowly and up to 3m height and width. Leaves are dense and turn their color to beautiful red in fall like as other Japanese Maple.

Japanese Maple - Moonfire

Moonfire Japanese Maple maintain the color you can see in the picture from spring to autumn and turn the color to crimson red in fall season. Moonfire is relatively easy to take care and grows 6m (20 feet) height and width.
