Stem and leaf of Amorphophallus
Amorphophallus plants are often called as Voodoo lilies. They are perennial herb plants and several species are known in this group. Amorphophallus Titanum is one of them and very famous plant of this group. This plant grows in tropical East Asia and blooms very large flower. It is known as one of biggest flower in the world. And most of other Amorphophallus Plants are also native to tropical to semi-tropical area of East Asia. Many of these plants are often used as garden plants due to their uniqueness as you can see on the pictures of this page.
Most of these plants are easy to grow plants. They start to grow from tubers in spring season and bloom unique shape odor flowers and produce colorful berries in summer.
In japan we use tuber of Amorphophallus konjac to produce “Konnyaku” which is a very popular healthy food in Japan.
